Composing Templates

JOOReports templates are OpenDocument Text (ODT) files. You can use 2.0 Writer to create them (or import documents from e.g. Microsoft Word as a starting point).

An OpenDocument file is basically a ZIP archive containing some XML files. For advanced templates, it is a good idea to familiarise yourself a little bit with the OpenDocument XML to understand better what's going on behind the scenes. The OASIS OpenDocument Essentials book is an excellent resource, but you can just unzip an ODT file and have a look at what is inside, in particular in the content.xml to get a first idea.
